Growing Congregation Gets Up To Speed With SD Mayer’s Outsourced Accounting Team
Eden Church, an LGBTQIA+ Open & Affirming Congregation located in Hayward, California, needed help filling in the void when their lead finance staff member retired.
The team at SD Mayer helped to take us from early startup mode, running accounting with Excel and lump-sum journal entries, to proper audit-ready accounting practices. Highly recommended for a bootstrapping startup that needs to up their game. Great team to work with! Friendly, responsive and accurate. Just what you need.
THE CHALLENGE
As we often see, many of our nonprofit clients have staff they’ve depended on for years and year, who are in charge of running their main finance and operational needs. In Eden Church’s case, they had a long-time staff member, who knew their accounting system well, retire. They needed help getting someone up to speed quickly to keep the accounts running and looked to SD Mayer for assistance.
HOW SD MAYER HELPED
Our outsourced accounting team is used to working virtually, and handling AR/AP, payroll and general bookkeeping duties, but they’ll also think outside the box, in terms of finding the best solution for each individual client.
In the case of Eden Church, they’d been using a system called Church Windows Management Software for many years. The staff found it to be difficult to navigate, pull up reports and integrate into some of their other systems.
Our team investigated the best system for Eden Church’s accounting needs and we have always had great success using Quickbooks Online (QBO). Implementation of the new system went smoothly, along with moving all financials out of Church Windows and into QBO.
We also trained their staff on the new system and instructed them on how to get the specific reports they needed for their Board and congregational committee members.
THE RESULTS
The results are excellent and everyone loves QBO and tells us how much easier it is to use. We continue to work as outsourced accountants for Eden Church, which helps them save the overhead costs of hiring a staff member. These are some of our favorite engagements, where we can help a nonprofit with a solution, save them some money and introduce a new and easier way to accomplish the same goals they’ve been working towards.
