SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. (February 3, 2020) — Stephen D. Mayer, founder and managing partner of SD Mayer & Associates, was recently honored with the Chaminade Award for his stewardship and support of Archbishop Riordan High School over the past three decades. Mayer, a 1972 graduate and star football player at San Francisco’s oldest all-boys high school, credits his Riordan education with his success in building, owning and managing two major public accounting firms in the Bay Area.
Most recently, Mayer and his namesake firm donated $30,000 to remodel a classroom in recognition of two of Mayer’s business teachers, Paul Arrigotti and Michael Lazzari. This came on the heels of the November 2019 dedication of Riordan’s state-of-the-art multi-sport field and athletic complex, the Mayer Family Field at The Carl Gellert and Celia Berta Gellert Athletic Complex. Mayer and his brother Mike, also a Riordan graduate, donated $500,000 to kick off the fundraising in 2012, which ultimately brought in $3.2 million to create the four-sport complex.
“It is an honor to receive the Chaminade Award,” said Mayer. “My experience at Riordan equipped me with important leadership and business skills that I utilize to this day. I am grateful to the educators who were a critical part of my development, and I am happy to enhance the experience of future Crusaders,” he continued.
Mayer is the 46th recipient of the Chaminade Award. In 1975, Archbishop Riordan High School inaugurated the Blessed William Joseph Chaminade Award to honor an individual in the Riordan community. The annual award recipient exemplifies the Marianist spirit of service and loyalty and has helped to advance the mission of the school. Recipients include alumni, faculty and staff, parents, and benefactors.
